There is something to be said by makeshift mortar racks... Milkcrates work, sort of. I scattered mortars all over the place. Then there is the slight disaster of the board I placed them on. This was perfect ast year, however it was stored in the open and the plywood was mushy this year, I didn't think much of it, it supported my weight (270), though it didn't support 1.75" guns on it. Fired through the plastic bottom of the crate and through the 3/4" plywood. During the show you can tell the shells that caused it, many low burst, the audience was about 125 ' away.
OUCH... I was going to pick up milk crates to save time this year. I am glad I changed my mind and built my own racks.

Umm, its called particle board...Big difference to plywood...But, good lessons learned for all here. Always make racks with thick bottoms. NFPA states 2" nominal thickness of wood under the tubes. Then....put screws through that into the but plugs in the bottoms of your mortars.
I always fear when setting up finales and mids that the racks will go. Thats when it goes really bad. Shells shooting horizontally, shells being pulled out before they ignite on a chain..
